Homelessness is hard enough, but menstruating each month and having to find menstrual supplies is an additional difficulty that hundreds of thousands of women face in the US. FOOD OR TAMPONS? This should not be a decision women need to make, but in the United States, tampons are taxed and NOT covered by the food stamp assistance program.
While we are not a large company, we are a woman-owned and woman-funded business with deep roots in charitable work. So we are going to do what we can and give 1,000 Joyboxx Menstrual Hygiene Kits to homeless women’s shelters to raise awareness and much needed supplies for Global Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28.
Tents pitched illegally on a sidewalk in Seattle in freezing January.
In Seattle, where our Passionate Playground HQ is located, the homelessness population has exploded. Affordable housing is non-existent. People are living on sidewalks and under every bridge. A few of world’s largest companies and top billionaires are also here, making the Seattle homeless crisis truly obscene.
FACT: Around the world, girls and women resort to using rags, mattress stuffing, banana leaves, feathers, and even cow dung to manage their menstruation.
“I wish I had a Joyboxx while I was deployed and to give our patients at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. It’s so helpful for many reasons. That’s why I invested in the company and the product. The thing you have to know about girls in Afghanistan is that they rarely menstruate. They are either pregnant or breastfeeding their entire lives starting from 10-14. The kit is helpful in both situations. I’m thrilled to help homeless women anywhere with this hygiene kit!

CAN I GIVE MORE THAN $25?
Of course. If you would like to contribute $1,000 or more, then we will work with you and the charitable organization together for your tax receipt and getting the kits together. Simply add the number x $25 to the shopping cart like this. We will contact you from the information you provide in the checkout.
IS THE $25 MENSTRUAL KIT PURCHASE TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
It should be, but it is not. Due to the charitable giving laws, Passionate Playground and our partner brands can not give you a tax-deduction. We are for-profit companies and individuals donating our resources and products to multiple charities. You will get an email copy of the donation receipt when it is made to the individual shelters as well as updates on the campaign. Our Founder and CEO, Deborah Semer, has a Master's Degree in Not-for-Profit Leadership from Seattle University and a long career in helping the homeless and building charitable organizations, so you can be assured these kits will get to homeless women.
CAN I DONATE A KIT OUTSIDE OF SEATTLE? YES!
You can purchase a case of 12 Joyboxx Menstrual Hygiene Kits and have it shipped to the charity of your choice (that helps women), anywhere in the world!
Cost is $300 per case of 12 + shipping. You need to provide a charity contact and website link. We will verify the charity and work with you to get the case(s) delivered. Depending on the supply available, each request will be evaluated. Send us an inquiry at customercare (at) joyboxx (dot) com.
HOW LONG WILL THIS BE GOING ON?
Until we have donated all 1,000 Hygiene Kits. If we do not raise enough funds to purchase the hygiene items or get them donated, we will still be donating 1,000 antimicrobial locking Joyboxx's to Seattle shelters as we have done in the past.
WHICH SHELTERS/CHARITIES ARE YOU GIVING THE KITS TO?
Depending on each shelter's need, the list can grow. Non-profit organizations serving homeless women and girls can sign up to receive a case of 12 (or more).
